Sports Medicine Fellowship Trained
A native of Ohio, Dr. Runyan attended Miami University, Oxford, OH for undergraduate education. He received his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine.
He then completed residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Michigan. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at Marshall University, Huntington, WV. After initially remaining in Huntington, Dr. Runyan and his family moved to Great Falls, MT to focus his practice on sports medicine and musculoskeletal urgent care.
For the last 12 years, Dr. Runyan has practiced sports and musculoskeletal medicine in Florence, SC in orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery settings. He has extensive experience treating musculoskeletal conditions in patients of all ages, and from “ weekend warriors” to athletes from youth sports to the professional level.
He has expertise in treating acute musculoskeletal injuries such as
sprains, fractures and concussions, as well as overuse or chronic conditions like tendinitis and arthritis. He also has significant experience with occupational injuries. Making an accurate diagnosis, treatment plan, and returning patients to their sport, hobby, or occupation as quickly and safely as possible is a top priority.
Dr. Runyan and his wife Mandy, have a son who is a student at Clemson University, and a daughter in high school. In his spare time, he enjoys mountain biking, hiking, hunting, fishing and watching college football. Dr. Runyan and his family are excited to join and explore the vibrant and growing community in Madison and North Alabama.
